At Aspect Windows we offer 3 material options for your windows and doors;
The material you choose will ultimately be dependent on a number of factors including, your own personal taste, budget, planning stipulations and performance requirements. Each material has its perceived strength depending on the type of project that you are undertaking.
Aluminium is strong and durable, and offers a lot of design flexibility – a popular choice for many homeowners. This strong material allows for thinner sight-lines, perfect for framing a view, with its smooth appearance it is ideal for achieving a contemporary look. The light-weight and robust profile is capable of hosting wide spans of glass. Available in the full RAL colour range allowing you to perfectly match your home.
Composite – with either a timber, or PVCu core and weather-resistant finish, this framing material can offer the best of both worlds. You will also see these windows referred to as ‘alu-clad’. If you are looking for a high-performance door or window framing system then composite could be the answer. These factory-engineered products combine different material in order to maximise the benefits of each, delivering a stylish, low-maintenance and durable solution.
PVCu windows have become the industry standard for many reasons. Including; cost effective, secure, and low-maintenance. PVCu have come a long way from the bulky PVCu frames of the past, with PVCu increasingly offering good aesthetic appeal. PVCu windows are available in every format, from sliding sash to casement and tilt and turn. White might be the standard colour, but coloured frames are now also available.
If you are unsure on which material is best for the windows and doors in your project, we would recommend booking a showroom visit with one of our experts, where you can talk through your requirements and the options available to you. As well as being able to see and feel the products for yourself in order to experience the difference and feel the quality.
Aluminium is a great option for window frames and front doors, and is especially popular for glazed doors, due to the lightweight robust profile, which is capable of hosting wide spans of glass. Aluminium frames offer slim sight-lines, improved security and high thermal efficiency. The smooth finish and flexibility in colour make them a very popular choice for contemporary builds.
COLOUR
Aluminium frames are available in any RAL colour, thanks to a process called powder coating. Grey’s and blacks are a very popular colour amongst architects, especially when creating a contemporary new build, with wow-factor glazing. You can also choose to have dual colours, whereby you would have a different colour on the outside of the window compared to the inside, allowing you to match the frame colours perfectly with your property and decor.
LOW MAINTENANCE
Aluminium is durable and requires little upkeep, a simple wipe with a damp soapy cloth is what we recommend for cleaning. Its a great option for exposed locations, such as near the coast, or an estuary. With a pre-anodised finish, the frames are even better equipped to resist the effects of the harsh elements such as salt air from coastal locations.
SLIM PROFILES
As aluminium profiles are easy to work with, thin profiles with neat, square edges are easier to achieve with aluminium over PVCu or wood; both of which would have much thicker/wider frames. As well as contemporary builds, aluminium can also be used for traditional properties. Aluminium allows you to create a period style metal frame with a modern twist, helping to create an architectural feature of your windows.
LIFE SPAN
Aluminium frames also have a very long life span, you can expect them to last between 40-60 years, if installed correctly. They are also 100% recyclable at the end of the frames service life.

Composite windows, also known as alu-clad windows, combine two materials in the construction of the frames. At Aspect Windows we offer two options when it comes to composite windows; timber-aluminium and PVCu-aluminium.
There are a number of key advantages to specifying your doors and windows as alu-clad composites:
Timber-aluminium windows offer you the attractive looks and effective insulation of timber windows but with sleek powder-coated aluminium cladding on the outside which offers low maintenance and durability.
PVCu-aluminium windows offer the sleek contemporary look of aluminium externally, whilst providing high thermal insulation and ease of cleaning internally.
The main reason engineered timber or PVCu is used on the inside is because it’s an innately good insulator – so it can help to improve U-values and minimise heat loss. Therefore are particularly suited when looking for low energy windows or if you are wanting to reach passive house standards, when matched with triple glazing. Composites are hugely popular in Scandinavia, Canada and areas with similar cold climates, as triple glazed versions offer U-values as low as 0.6 W/m2K
For both options, the sleek outer aluminium frames, provide a low maintenance finish, which can be powder coated in a range of RAL colours. In gloss, matt, satin or anodised (for marine environments) finishes to create a contemporary look from the outside that’s ideal for modern renovations. For period properties, more traditional designs are also available, with the internal timber framing giving a softer finish that suits these homes. Alu-clad windows are also a great choice for homes in coastal locations and other exposed locations as with a highly weather resistant paint finish they are excellent at resisting the effects of harsh weather.
In terms of lifespan you can expect 40 years plus from a quality aluminium cladded windows.

Windows and doors are available in a wide variety of colours, with many of our systems being available in over 150 RAL colours. But with so many options how do you choose the right colour for your home?
With up to 25 years guarantee, your windows and doors will be in your home for a long time, therefore you want to choose a colour scheme that you will enjoy for years to come. There are three key areas to consider when deciding on the colour for your new windows and doors:
THE STYLE OF YOUR PROPERTY
All homes have an architectural design that makes them unique and choosing windows that match this design aesthetic is the first step in choosing the right windows. Is your home modern or traditional? Victorian-style homes tend to suit classic colours for example, whereas modern homes can suit anything from bold to the more subtle.
THE EXTERIOR OF YOUR PROPERTY

Its important to choose a colour which will complement the building material used in your property. Having the door the same colour as your windows, really helps to tie it all together.
Consider the colour of your neighbors windows. You will want to ensure you choose a colour which will complement rather than clash with your neighbors.
For example with this 1980’s red brick home, the owners were originally thinking of replacing the original brown windows with white, however felt this wouldn’t work with the rest of the street. In the end the homeowners decided on anthracite grey, to create a modern look, but still be complementary to the other houses on the street. Take a look at the case study here.
YOUR PERSONAL TASTES
The colour you choose should reflect your own personality, and how different colours make you feel. For example natural colours can be rustic and comforting, grey is timeless and classic, whereas yellow can be warm, welcoming and optimistic. Don’t forget the colour you have on the outside of your windows doesn’t have to be the same as the colour you have on the inside. Therefore you can choose an inside colour which matches the interior of your property whilst the exterior colour matches the outside.
THE RIGHT COLOUR FOR MY WINDOWS AND DOORS
When deciding on the colour you are going to choose, consider the following:
- Dark or subdued colours can make the window frame disappear into the glass, resulting in a smooth, flat appearance.
- Light shades highlight the window unit, creating a contrast.
- A dark window frame on a light facade creates contrast and character, creating an eye catching architectural feature.
- A high gloss finish can make a frame appear darker and more distinct.
- A matt finish will make the frame appear lighter and more subtle.
- A strong colour for a window frame often works best when balanced by a calm facade, ensuring that the property wont look too colourful!
Darker shades of blue, plum and green are all safe bets that will make a design statement. Anthracite grey is also another safe bet, being the most popular colour it goes with most building materials, it is subtle, timeless and will suit most styles of property.
Aluminium windows and doors are available in a multitude of colours. From a standard range to the full RAL spectrum, of over 150 colours, in either matt or gloss finishes. Achieved through a painting technique called Powder Coating, providing you with a long lasting attractive finish.
As well as colour, you can also choose from a range of textures e.g. wood grain or metallic, finishes e.g. full pre-anodised or 60 microns standard finish, and dual colours, i.e. a different colour on the internal frame compared to the external.
Non-standard colours will come with an additional charge and an increased lead time. This is because the factories aren’t set up to mass produce the non-standard colours. Instead they have a small area of the factory floor set aside for specialised colours, which has to be cleaned down after each colour change.
The standard colour range, price, lead time and options do vary from system to system. Therefore if you have any questions surrounding different colour options we would recommend speaking with your dedicated sales consultant during your showroom appointment.
